Job attachments inside each message - Eightlegged

We rebuilt the job page in our own admin so photos, screenshots, video and voice notes sit in the message they arrived with, not in one shared pile.

Every job we run is a conversation, and files turn up in the middle of it. We rebuilt the job page in our own admin so each attachment now sits in the message it arrived with. Nobody has to guess which reply a screenshot belonged to.

What we needed

A photo of a fault, a screenshot of an error, a short video, a voice note that explains the problem faster than typing. All of it is useful. But the old job page kept every file in one shared bucket per job. You could find the files, but you could not tell which message each one came with.

We also wanted each job to carry more of its own detail, and the jobs board to be searchable and filterable.

What we did

Attachments now belong to individual messages. Photos, screenshots, video and voice notes display inline in the message they were sent with. Images click to enlarge. Voice notes play in the page.

Replying is a single action. Staff and customers can:

  • drag files into the reply;
  • paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard;
  • record a voice note in the browser;
  • send the lot with their message in one go.

Each job also gained a work type, priority, due date, time estimate, reference links, a checklist and an activity history. The jobs board gained free-text search, plus filters for discipline and urgency, so finding a job means typing a word or picking a filter.

What it means day to day

A customer's photo and our reply now sit together on the job page. Reporting a problem is a matter of pasting a screenshot or talking into the browser. The due dates, estimates and checklists live on the job itself, so the detail is there when someone opens it.

It is our own tool, built for the way we work. See our portfolio or what we do.
