This month so far: 30 of 2000 emails triaged on the Business plan.
Drafts are never sent for you. Read, tweak, send. Reply to this email if something was sorted wrongly and we'll tune it.
Time, roughly
40 minutes by hand: 40 emails at about a minute each to open, read and decide what to do with.
9 minutes with the summary: about 2 minutes to read it (361 words at an ordinary 200 words a minute), then about a minute on each of the 7 that need a reply.
That is about 31 minutes back on a morning like this one, and rough on purpose: the minute an email and the reading speed are the assumptions. Writing the replies is not counted on either side. Here 6 are already drafted, ready to check, fill in and send.
DRAFTS
The 6 replies it drafted
In a real inbox these wait in the Drafts folder, threaded to each email, for a person to read, change and send. Nothing is ever sent for you. The highlighted square brackets are what the drafter could not know from the business's one-page description, left for the person sending to fill in.

Reply to: Wednesday's linen - ironer broken
Their email
Hi Ellen,
Bad news I'm afraid. Our big flatwork ironer packed in this afternoon and the engineer can't get here until Thursday morning. Towels are fine as normal, but we can only press about half your bedding for Wednesday.
So two options:
1. Half the bedding and all the towels on Wednesday, the rest of the bedding Thursday afternoon
2. Everything together on Thursday afternoon
Can you let me know by 9am tomorrow which you'd prefer, so we can plan the van? Really sorry about this.
Kev
Brightsands Linen Hire
Hi Kev,
Thanks for letting us know, and sorry to hear about the ironer. We'll check which option works best with our room changeovers and let you know before 9am tomorrow so you can plan the van.
[confirm option 1 (split delivery) or option 2 (everything Thursday afternoon) after checking Wednesday and Thursday arrivals and changeovers in the diary, and reply to Kev before 9am]
Best wishes,

Reply to: Our stay 2-4 October - very disappointed
Their email
Dear Mrs Marsh,
My wife and I stayed in Room 5 from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th October and I am sorry to say it was not what we expected for £230.
The shower ran cold on both mornings. I mentioned it at breakfast on Saturday and was told it would be looked at, but on Sunday it was no better. We were also kept awake on Saturday night by the guests in the room above until well after midnight.
Then, when I checked my card statement, I found a £15 dog charge on our final bill. We have never owned a dog.
I would like the dog charge refunded and some recognition of the rest. Unless I hear from you by Wednesday I will be leaving a review describing our stay.
Andrew Kettlewell
Dear Mr Kettlewell,
Thank you for taking the time to write, and we're really sorry your stay with us was disappointing. A cold shower two mornings running, especially after you'd told us about it, and a disturbed night are not what we want for anyone.
We're also sorry about the £15 dog charge. We're looking into how it came to be on your bill.
Ellen would like to talk all of this through with you properly, so she'll give you a ring [confirm day and time Ellen will call, before Wednesday] on the number on your booking. If there's a better number or time to reach you, just reply and let us know.
Kind regards,

Reply to: Left my glasses and a charger in Room 3
Their email
Hi,
We checked out of Room 3 this morning and I've just realised I left my reading glasses (red frames, in a black case) on the bedside table, and my mum's hearing aid charger is still plugged in by the window. She can't manage without the charger for long!
Could you post them back to us? Happy to pay the postage, and the address is the one on the booking.
Thank you so much,
Helen Brough
Hi Helen,
Thanks for getting in touch, and I'm sorry you've been left without the charger. We'll check Room 3 for your reading glasses (red frames, black case) and your mum's hearing aid charger as soon as we can. [confirm whether the items have been found in Room 3]
If we find them, we'll post them to the address on your booking. We send lost property back at cost, so there's just the postage to pay. [confirm postage cost and how Helen should pay] [confirm posting date, and whether it can go first class given the urgency]
If it helps to talk it through, you can reach us on 01632 960418.
Best wishes,

Message: Hi, we're hoping to come for three nights over half-term, Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th October. It would be me, my husband and our two boys (8 and 11) plus our springer spaniel, Biscuit. Do you have a family room that takes dogs, and how much would it be? The boys would love a sea view if there's any chance. Thanks!
Sent from the contact form on merrowbysteps.example at 10:52 on 5 October 2026.
Hi Gemma,
Thanks so much for getting in touch, and Biscuit is very welcome. Our family room that takes a dog is Room 7. It's on the ground floor, sleeps four and looks over the garden, so I'm afraid it doesn't have a sea view. Family rooms start from £135 a night, and dogs are £15 a night, so £45 for the three nights. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the tearoom too.
I'll check the booking diary for Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th October and get back to you with availability and the exact price. [confirm Room 7 availability for 27-30 Oct and exact price]

Reply to: Booking SL-48213 - could we move it a day later?
Their email
Hi Ellen,
We've got two nights booked with you this weekend, Friday 9th and Saturday 10th, booking SL-48213. My sister has just told us her party is on the Friday night now, so is there any chance we could move it to the Saturday and Sunday instead (10th and 11th)? Same room if possible.
If we can, we probably won't get to you until about 9pm on the Saturday. Is that too late to check in?
Thanks so much, and sorry for the faff.
Jo
Hi Jo,
Thanks so much for getting in touch, and no need to apologise. I can't confirm the move by email as I need to check the booking diary first, so I'll look at Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th and come back to you, including whether your room is free those nights. [confirm Sat 10th and Sun 11th availability and whether the same room is free]
On the late arrival, that's absolutely fine. Check-in is 3pm to 8pm, but if you're coming later just let us know roughly when and we'll send you the key-safe code on the day. So a 9pm arrival on the Saturday would be no trouble.
Best wishes,

Reply to: Afternoon tea for 18 - Mum's 70th
Their email
Hello,
My mum turns 70 next month and we'd love to take over your tearoom for an afternoon tea on Saturday 21st November. There would be 18 of us, including two who are coeliac and one vegetarian. A few questions:
- Could we have the room to ourselves from about 3pm?
- What would the price be per head, and do you need a deposit?
- My sister makes amazing cakes. Would it be OK for her to bring the birthday cake?
We had tea with you in the summer and Mum hasn't stopped talking about the scones, so we'd really like it to be with you.
Many thanks,
Lisa Pickering

Hi Lisa,
Thanks so much for getting in touch, and happy birthday to your mum in advance! It's lovely to hear she's still talking about the scones.
Your sister is very welcome to bring the birthday cake, and we'll gladly plate it up and serve it for you. We can do gluten-free and vegetarian afternoon teas for your coeliac and vegetarian guests too, with three days' notice.
Our afternoon tea is £24.50 a head (sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, cakes, and tea or coffee). Private parties of up to 24 are usually on Saturdays from 4pm, so I'd like Ellen to ring you to talk through timing for the 3pm start you had in mind, check that Saturday 21 November is free, and go over the deposit. [confirm 21 November availability and 3pm start] [confirm party deposit]
If you let us know the best number and a good time to reach you, she'll give you a call. You're also welcome to ring us on 01632 960418.
